SoftBank boosts earnings with tech investment sales

SoftBank boosts earnings with tech investment salesJapan’s SoftBank Group Corp reported a 49 percent jump in quarterly profit on Monday, boosted by the sale of its stake in Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart in the first public divestment by the conglomerate’s massive Vision Fund. SoftBank, which is planning to list its domestic telecoms business, also said profit was bolstered by the sale of most of the Chinese operations of chip design unit ARM Holdings. The sales are the first signs of SoftBank monetising its investments after pumping billions of dollars into technology companies around the world yet taking little profit.

Apple earnings beat expectations with share prices rising in extended trading

Apple earnings beat expectations with share prices rising in extended tradingShares of Apple Inc have jumped after the company posted quarterly results that beat out Wall Street targets while forecasting revenue above expectations in the current quarter. The immediate spike in shares was not enough, however, to make Apple the first company to be valued at one trillion, but the company has come very close to that moniker and continued growth in future quarters could potentially push it over that line. Apple’s postings showed that the average iPhone sold cost $724, far outweighing previous expectations that the average price would come in at $694, according to the data providing service FactSet.
