A private safety inspector says he warned the Branson, Missouri, duck boat company nearly a year ago that a design flaw in some of the vehicles’ exhaust could cause them to sink in choppy water. Roaring like jet engines, new crack opens at Hawaii volcano

Roaring like jet engines, new crack opens at Hawaii volcanoBy Terray Sylvester PAHOA, Hawaii (Reuters) – A new fissure roaring like jet engines and spewing magma opened on Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano on Saturday, piling lava as high as a four-story building, as the area torn by the U.S. volcano’s eruption spread. The crack in pasture land on Kilauea’s east flank was the 16th recorded since the volcano, one of the world’s most active, erupted eight days ago. Thousands of people have fled their homes on Hawaii’s Big Island because of lava and toxic gases, and dozens of homes have been destroyed.

Airlines inspecting Boeing 737 engines after fatal Southwest incident

Airlines inspecting Boeing 737 engines after fatal Southwest incidentBy Jamie Freed SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Some major customers of Boeing Co’s popular 737 jets including Korean Air Lines Co Ltd said on Wednesday they were inspecting engines of the type that blew apart mid-air on a fatal Southwest Airlines Co flight on Tuesday. European regulators this month began requiring an inspection by early next year, and a person familiar with the matter said U.S. regulators were near a similar rule, which affects a number of 737s in operation globally. Southwest Flight 1380 made an emergency landing in Philadelphia on Tuesday after an engine ripped apart mid-air, shattering a window on the 737 and nearly sucking a passenger through.
