Nigerian President Buhari back from holiday: aideNigerian President Muhammadu Buhari returned from his annual vacation on Saturday, his office said in a statement, as the presidential race in the country intensifies ahead of February polls. “President @MBuhari returns to Abuja from the UK, after a 10 working day vacation,” said Bashir Ahmad, Buhari’s new media aide, in a statement posted on Twitter. Buhari started his vacation in London from August 3 without disclosing whether he would see his doctor while there, raising concerns about his health and his ability to campaign for re-election next year.

Five die as Boko Haram attacks Nigerian villageAt least five people were killed and a village razed in an attack by Boko Haram jihadists in the northern Nigerian Borno state, militia fighting the Islamists told AFP Saturday. Arriving in 10 trucks, the Boko Haram fighters stormed the village of Gasarwa near the garrison town of Monguno late Friday, setting homes on fire. “Five people were killed in the arson, they included two elderly men and three children,” Babakura Kolo, a militia leader in the Borno state capital Maiduguri said.
