Manafort trial - live updates: Prosecution to wrap-up case with jury deliberations possibly beginning by WednesdayProsecutors will aim to wrap up their tax and bank fraud case against former Donald Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort, making it likely the case will go to the jury by midweek if the defence decides not to call any witnesses. The trial is in its 10th day in Alexandria, Virginia, federal court and is not scheduled to resume until Monday afternoon. Mr Manafort is facing a number of bank fraud and tax charges, which he denies, in the first case to go to trial in connection with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling and possible collusion with Trump campaign officials.

Manafort trial – LIVE: Prosecution’s star witness could take stand as fraud trial of former Trump campaign manager continuesThe fourth day of Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort’s trial could prove to be explosive, with the prosecution’s star witness rumoured to be taking the stand. Rick Gates, who has accepted a plea deal after being indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, could now testify against his ex-business partner Mr Manafort on Friday. Prosecutors now expect Gates to be called on either Friday or Monday to testify against Mr Manafort, who denies a string of bank fraud and tax avoidance charges.

Paul Manafort trial: Judge blocks prosecution's use of luxury images; bookkeeper denies knowing about foreign accounts

The federal judge overseeing  the criminal trial of Paul Manafort said Thursday that he will continue to block the government from showing the jury photographs illustrating the prodigious spending habits of the former Trump campaign chairman, ruling such images unfairly “besmirch the defendant.”
